About Gingerbread Cottage

Idyllically positioned in a peaceful cul-de-sac, in the desirable Saint Dunstan's area of Canterbury, in Kent, rests this contemporary two-bedroom holiday home, Gingerbread Cottage. Boasting a homely and welcoming interior and enjoying close proximity to a host of amenities and attractions, Gingerbread Cottage makes the perfect place for exploring the delights of this sought-after region. Park up on the roadside and enter this delightful dwelling through its ‘front’ door, located on the right side of this cleverly designed and inviting home. The hallway, stylishly adorned with Victorian tiles, leads you into the open-plan living/dining room, where you can look forward to gathering together at the rustic dining table to indulge in the fruits of your labour before snuggling up in front of the glow of the wood-burning stove, or settling down for a movie marathon, courtesy of the Smart TV. From the snug step into the contemporary kitchen, beautifully appointed with an elegant blue décor and full granite worktops, fitted with a range of fantastic facilities including a handy dishwasher and washing machine. In the warmer months, carry the conversation outdoors with a sociable seat amongst the greenery of your private garden, a truly tranquil spot to soak in the last of the evening sun with your favourite tipple. When day draws to night, climb the stairs to the first floor where you'll find the family bathroom and two double bedrooms, each thoughtfully positioned under the vaulted ceiling, providing a wonderfully airy ambiance. In the morning, kick-start your day with an invigorating rinse in the spacious walk-in shower located on the ground floor, or pour in the bubbles for an indulgent soak in the elegant roll-top bath on the first floor. Take advantage of your central location and follow the footpath leading into the heart of the bustling city of Canterbury, just a short walk away, where you'll find a host of sights and attractions to keep you entertained, including the medieval ruins of Canterbury Castle, the subterranean Roman history museum, and the oldest cathedral in England, dating back 1400 years. Canterbury has been a site of pilgrimage since Chaucer’s day and as well as Canterbury Cathedral itself there is St Dunstan, which reputedly houses the head of St Thomas More, and the Roman Catholic Church of St Thomas of Canterbury, where relics of Thomas Becket himself are enshrined. Gingerbread Cottage is also just a stone's throw away from Canterbury West train station to explore further afield! Test your survival skills at Escape In The Towers, a thrilling escape room set within Canterbury's former city jail or catch a live performance at The Marlowe Theatre followed by a pint of real ale at Canterbury Tales. Keep the little ones entertained and come face-to-face with the farmyard animals at Druidstone Park, or travel to the coast of Herne Bay where you can expect thrills aboard the rides on the pier or make a splash at the beach. Jump in the car and journey to the town of Chatham and treat yourself to a spot of retail therapy at The Pentagon Shopping Centre, immerse yourself in maritime history with a tour of The Historic Dockyard Chatham, or charter a yacht and sail along the waters of the River Medway. The cottage is well situated for a visit to the North Downs, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you'll find a plethora of walking, hiking and cycling trails, leading you through rolling hills, open moorland and deep valleys. With all of this and more, choose Gingerbread Cottage as your base to tour the hidden gems of Kent.

Lovely and very comfortable house and garden. Barbra is a great hostess too.
What a fantastic place. Great facilities. Close to the city centre and parked right outside the property. Barbra kept us unformed all the way and was very helpful. We will be back.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped. Barbra had done a wonderful job with the Christmas decorations and made it so welcoming when we walked through the door. The location is also good for walking into Canterbury or driving to the coast. Overall, excellent accommodation managed by an excellent host.

Our 3rd visit to beautiful Gingerbread Cottage. Thank you Barbara for making our stay magical

Fantastic everything thought out well. Couldnt fault it .
This rental was perfect. It had anything and everything you could want. We have rented 10 different cottages in the past 10 years and this was by far the best. From the quality of the furnishings to the welcome food and wine it is a 10 star rental. And the agent, Barbara, is even better! Quick fesponses and very helpful. We cannot find even one small thing about which to complain.
Gingerbread Cottage is uncluttered and easy to live in leaving you feeling pampered with everything you need to hand in a characterful and high quality setting. The short walk into town is a joy yet you do not feel to be in an urban setting.
Gingerbread Cottage is an extremely cosy and comfortable house. It is very well equipped and maintained to the highest standards. It was a pleasure to communicate with Barbra who supplied us with lots of helpful information as well as tasty welcoming treats! Its position in Canterbury is excellent as the railway station is within an easy distance and the bus station a pleasant 20 minute walk away. We really enjoyed our stay.

Following really friendly and helpful emails with Barbra, we felt genuinely welcomed to Gingerbread Cottage, a feeling that was strengthened even further when we saw the wonderful home made treats left for us along with two vases of beautiful fresh flowers. The Cottage is very well furnished, decorated, equipped and accessorised. It is exceptionally clean throughout. The bed linen and towels were of a very high standard the beds and pillows were so, so comfortable. We felt 'at home' straight away. It took us about 810 mins pleasant walk to the centre of Canterbury. The Cottage is on a very quiet road yet within a couple of minutes' drive, you are on the main roads to go exploring the area, so its in a great spot. Would very highly recommend booking here. Big thanks again to Barbra for all her superb help and kindness. Reading the comments in the Guest Book from previous visitors, it is clear to see that Barbra will always go that extra mile to help ensure people booking the Cottage have the best stay possible that is so much appreciated.

Barbra is an excellent property manager. The house was spotless and very well appointed. The excellent home baked goods and the bottle of wine were much appreciated. The garden was a complete delight and we had good weather to enjoy it!

This cottage was wonderful. It was so well appointed and comfortable. The welcome goodies were a delight too! A short walk from Canterbury town centre it was ideal for exploring the city and reaching restaurantscafes. The owner was exceptionally helpful, leaving details of local walks, some of which we were able to enjoy. Although we were dependant on onroad parking we always parked with ease it wasnt a problem at all. Highly recommended.
Excellent accommodation and spotlessly clean! !! My family and I could not have chosen a better location, I would recommend this cottage.

Gingerbread Cottage The Perfect Stay! Weve stayed at several cottages, but none can compare to this one! A huge thank you and a virtual hug to Barbra, who made this the best Christmas weve had in ten years. After a busy work period that left us feeling like we wouldnt celebrate, Barbra truly made us feel special. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and more, including thoughtful little gifts waiting for us upon arrival. It was such a delightful surprise! From the moment we stepped in, we felt welcomed. The cottage was luxurious, immaculate, and inviting. Once again, a heartfelt thank you to Barbra for being the perfect host. We couldnt have asked for a better experience!

Our second stay in this beautiful cottage this year, we stayed in August with our grandchildren and just home from a beautiful festive week for two from the 29th Nov 6th Dec It was so magical from the moment we stepped through the door, beautifully decorated throughout
A super holiday cottage, thoughtfully and tastefully designed and furnished, and with everything you could need! A massive asset at this cottage is the agent, who is helpful, kind, knowledgeable and a great baker! She has been so very helpful to us I hope the owners know what a treasure she is!
Gingerbread Cottage was one of the best places we have stayed in. Very clean and comfortable with everything you could need. Barbra has been wonderful, sorting parking permits and supplying maps and information to make our stay easier and leaving provisions for us. A heartfelt thank you to her. We would love to return in the future.

I have never given feedback on the cottages I visit and I have been to a lot but this cottage definitely deserves one. Fabulous cottage, one of the best we have stayed in. There were so many extra thoughtful little touches. Decor was superb and very comfortable. Barbra made sure everything was perfectly clean and was very helpful and nothing too much trouble. A short nice walk into the centre of Canterbury so we didnt have to take the car. To top it all Euphemia behaved herself all week.
A beautifully presented, well equipped and immaculately maintained cottage set in a quiet street only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Canterbury. Many individual touches such as delicious homemade treats, lovely toiletries and quality linen make Gingerbread Cottage a special place to stay. I had been concerned about parking but it was never a problem as I always found a space by the property. Barbra is an exceptional property manager who goes out of her way to ensure guests enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay. I will definitely return
Wow, what a find. We have stayed in a lot of lovely cottages but Gingerbread Cottage is by far the best. It has been beautifully renovated to a very high standard, the decor is beautiful and comfortable, it had everything we needed and much more. We were greeted on arrival with gorgeous homemade goodies, fresh flowers in lounge and wine, milk etc, there was also a range of tea and coffee, a very lovely greeting. There are lots of lovely personal touches through the cottage and we seemed to spot something different everyday. Barbra was absolutely amazing, she kept in touch, making sure we had everything we needed and recommending places for us to go etc, by the end of the week she felt like an old friend

Barbara contacted me with directions to the property. The cottage was large and airy. Barbara left a wonderful welcome pack of cake, milk, brownies, wine, crisps and home made limoncello. The cottage is very well equipped, very clean and really comfortable. The cottage was only 1015 min walk from the town centre. We loved this cottage and will return again in the near future.
Shirley
One of the most loveliest cottages weve stayed in & we have been to loads! Gingerbread Cottage stole our hearts from the moment we stepped through the door Beautiful, even nicer in real life, from cosy corners where the log burner is to the other bright sitting area, beautiful bedrooms & great bathrooms, lovely garden area. Thank you Barbara for your lovely communication, it was such a pleasure from the time of booking to leaving the cottage. Thank you for such lovely goodies when we arrived, it makes such a difference after traveling so long to be able to pop the kettle on and having such lovely treats. Love the attention to detail & care, your guests are clearly important to you. If there was one wee thing, it would be a mirror in the master bedroom by the linen basket where there is a plug so I could do my hair etc rather than do it in the hallway where there is a mirror, its a small detail. Everything was fabulous
The house was a perfect base for our holiday with being a short walk to both town and the train station. Barbara was amazing and went above and beyond with any enquiries. The house was immaculate and the food and drink presents were very much appreciated after a long drive.
We had a wonderful stay in Gingerbread Cottage. It had everything we needed and was really well equipped. We appreciated all of the touches such as wine and yummy cakes. The maps showing the best walk into Canterbury and the main sights were very useful. Barbra responded quickly to all of our questions and was very kind to organise our parking vouchers. We would highly recommend this Cottage.

Outstanding property, absolutely everything provided. Easily the best cottage we have ever stayed in, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable sofas and beds. Excellent communication from the House Manager who really went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend and visit again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gingerbread Cottage. It was very spacious, beautifully furnished, very comfortable and extremely well equipped, with great attention to detail. The pretty garden with ample seating was an added bonus. The cottage was ideally situated in a quiet area, just a short walk from the city and the beautiful cathedral. It was just a few miles away from the coast by car and was also close to the railway station so we were able to travel by train to popular seaside resorts. We have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone wishing to stay in this area, it truly deserves its 5 star rating!
We had an amazing holiday at Gingerbread Cottage. The cottage is beautiful and well equipped, the owner has thought of everything you could possibly need. It is furnished to a very high standard and has a lovely garden to the rear. The welcome pack was very much appreciated, as was the beautiful fresh flowers. It is situated a 10 minute walk from the city centre in a quiet cul de sac. We would definitely recommend.
Lovely house, well presented. Very convenient for the city centre and the West Canterbury rail station, and the Goods Shed Farmers market adjacent to the station!
Immaculately clean, stylish and tastefully decorated. Attention to detail, especially in the kitchen was impressive. The welcome pack consisting of home made cakes & wine was so thoughtful as was the vases of fresh flowers. We have stayed in many self catering cottages and this was easily the best and probably couldn't be bettered. The added bonus was the lovely secluded garden. Barbra the property manager should also get a mention, she is such an asset. Perfect holiday package.
The property was excellent. Very good position, quiet cul de sac whilst a short walk from the centre Barbara had thought of everything to make the stay easy and comfortable. Cake, milk and wine! We did use the stable door, unable to open front door even with precise instructions!
We had such a lovely stay here. Its very beautifully decorated and the beds were really comfy. We liked the board games. The welcome pack was wonderful and so delicious especially the amazing cake. We enjoyed sitting in the garden in the sun. Top marks all round. Definitely recommend. Great location too.
Gingerbread Cottage is in an ideal location to explore Canterbury and the surrounding area close to the railway station, and the absence of onsite parking not posing any issues as local streets feature generous free parking options. The property itself is immaculately clean and well appointed inside, with a pretty rear garden for when the sun shines. Whilst the interior decor may be a little quirky for some the name 'Gingerbread Cottage' is apt, the holiday home is clearly very well maintained. A particular shout out is due to the property manager Barbra, who was very helpful in her communications before our trip and treated us to some delicious baked goods and wine to greet our arrival much appreciated!
Pauline
Gingerbread is a cottage in a class of its own, it felt like a warm hug from the moment we stepped over the threshold. It truly has a special quality from the tasteful furniture, fittings and decor, to the exceptional cleanliness and immaculate presentation. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough. The Welcome Gift, was so thoughtful wine, a gorgeous cake and brownies. Teas of all kinds, coffee and milk were also provided and all the essential cleaning materials. The manager is such a great asset, organising the parking permit, providing helpful local information and presenting the cottage to such a high standard it is like walking into a boutique hotel. If you are thinking of visiting Canterbury, Gingerbread Cottage is just 1 20 minutes walk away from the city centre, it is in a lovely quiet location and you will not be disappointed it is perfect. Pauline and Stan Dawes
Gingerbread cottage is very comfortable and spacious in a quiet location within easy reach of the centre. It was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished. Barbra was very welcoming and helpful both before and during our stay. Easily one of the best holiday cottages weve stayed in.
