Smugglers Shack Reviews

Sandra
The property is really lovely Very comfortable and in a lovely location Some bulbs weren't working And a toilet seat was broken in main bathroom Which I'm sure will get fixed! We had a really lovely holiday And hopefully will get to use this holiday home again.

We enjoyed our stay at Smugglers Shack. It was comfortable. We did have an issue with the heating and hot water on the Saturday morning, however this was resolved swiftly after ringing the owner. Recommend checking the radiator in the ensuite bathroom as seemed to leak at times. Didnt find the oven gloves but used the tea towels! No reflection on the lodge but there was no restaurant service available on the Friday we arrived disappointingly and for the weekend no chef, although we think he was back on Sunday but as we didnt need this we cant confirm it. Directions around the park could be better lit!

We had a fabulous week away in Cornwall at the Smugglers shack which is well suited for to any family and caters for all ages. The kitchen has many gadgets including a slow cooker which was very useful. Highly recommend as we were able to visit many places we wished and the lodge was central. The holiday park is calm and quiet.
Nice lodge, although the cleaning could be improved, brown stain on the mattress protector on our bed, which we didn't notice until we removed the sheets when leaving. Said to put the bedding and towels in the bag supplied but no bag! Outside furniture was dirty and green stains on the wicker chairs maybe being picky but could be washed off prior to arriving. Toilet flush didn't work as the handle kept slipping round but luckily it just needed tightening, so I fixed it myself. All minor things but things you don't need when you're on holiday. Overall a nice place to stay, park amenities good, restaurant food good, shop on site not too bad price wise.
A lovely comfortable property in a good location. Well equipped making a pleasurable stay. However the property is not well kept, reasonably clean but cobwebs in most corners and hanging from ceilings, and dirty windows. The property requires some maintenance, a faulty blind, broken or loose window locks, toilet cisterns malfunctioning. TV not receiving some terrestrial channels and some kitchen items broken requiring replacing. The property would benefit from a thorough audit.

Loved our stay. Very well equipped, comfortable, roomy, light & spacious in main living area for the 3 of us. Quiet area. Great for parking. Wished wed had the weatheropportunity to sit outside on one of the decking areas as sure it would have been very pleasant. Easy access to walk down to Polperro and back up! Good base for everything.
A big thank you to the owners for the accommodation which was first class wth a well equiped kitchen, comfortable beds, very clean and nicely decorated to give a very homely feel. There are several walks close by but you do need to be really fit as the hill are very steep. On site there is a small shop and a club with entertainment, it also serves as a restaurant and has a take away option, the food was good quality. The lodge is sited on the larger part of the park which is very well maintained but as there are no dedicated walkways my wife was unable to see much of the site as her mobility scooter was unable to cope with the speed ramps.
Good size lodge nice location good swimming pool book 24 hours in advance

The lodge was in a quiet & pleasant location. There were issues with cleanliness and maintenance ie dirty shelves with mouldy coffee in a caddy that was thick with grease etc I spent a lot of my time cleaning, I do not believe these things are down to the owner. Many pans not fit for purpose with buckled bottoms and flaking non stick. No washing up bowl or plug for the sink I did buy a plug but it was the wrong size Outside balustrade was loose in places. I have taken photos to show areas I mention. Onsite facilities very tired looking ie swimming pool and tennis courts & clubhouse. Overall we enjoyed the space and apart from these things found it pleasant and reasonably comfortable to stay in I just think it was below Sykes normal standard.

Beautiful setting. With all the facilities in the lodge as per advert. Extremley clean. Black out blinds in bedrooms excellent. Full size fridge. Outdoor furniture was great and lovely bonus of out door sofa and table at rear of decked lodge. Lovely to catch the sun. Only thing i would say is the sofas perhaps need replacing as not very comforyable. We sunk down in the sofas and found it difficult to get back out. Which was funny sometimes. Other wise was a great lodge and will be back and would recommend.

Lovely stay thank you
Really enjoyed our stay. A superb lodge in a nice location. Double bed comfy but blocks wardrobe doors from opening so used adjacent Room. Didnt use the single beds. Super TV but previous guests had logged out of the owners Netflix and Prime accounts. Used iplayer instead. WiFi was great. Noticed the bathroom emergency window is difficult to open and one leaf of patio doors also needs attention. Just small issues and didnt affect our enjoyment. Definitely would stay again.
Katharine
Very comfortable and well equipped lodge, in peaceful surroundings. We really enjoyed our stay.
Maxine
The lodge was exactly as described! Everything was available for a comfortable stay! The lodge itself is perfect. I give that a 1010 overall and it is in a great location to explore Looe and Polpero. Polpero is a darling little village! It is within the Killigarth manor holiday park and you pay just 30 to use the facilities. Although we paid to use the pool and tennis court, we only used these once as they are both badly in need of refurbishment. Unfortunately, that was a let down. Id definitely visit Smugglers Shack again though!

The holiday was great and the lodge was actually better than I thought it was ... The holiday was great and the lodge was actually better than I thought it was going to be on previous experiences the site its on is really great and quite Their was only two very small problems and they were the fact that when you use the toaster the electric kept tripping but that wasnt a problem because you could use the grill the other thing was that the we couldnt get the cooker extract fan to work like I say they were only small problems that did not affect my stay but I just thought you could pass the information onto the owner Other than that i could not fault the lodge it was excellent and well looked after with everything you needed supplied to make your holiday enjoyable so much so we are considering coming back next year if it fits in with other projects we have on as it was so great and enjoyable and the lodge is awesome
Absolutely beautiful. Well equipped with everything we needed. Clean and tidy. Would Absolutely recommend and thank you for making our first experience of Cornwall so memorable x
Alison
Lovely lodge clean although toliet brushes dirty lots of space, disappointed that despite emailing re feather allergies their were still feather cushions! !!! one of our party had allergies so locked them away in wardrobe. The fridge needed to be defrosted. Lodge itself lovely. Great outside seating , bedding clean . Lots of clean table wear, although only one side of the toaster worked Very disappointed that was advertised as having a pool but when we rang to book it was told we were not allowed as the owner had not purchased the pass. On saying that the pool area looked tired and dirty so felt bit let down as did not meet the advertised facilities. The site itself was well maintained and clean. Plenty of bins and the lodges around seemed well cared for. Very quiet and relaxing. Good position for visiting local sites
All as described and we had a really good week, made better by the great weather and Talland Bay Beach. The cottage description should be updated to make clear that use of the facilities on site ie swimming pool will cost an extra 30 per week. A couple of minor points, the first sharp knife we used had a broken handle so we left it on the kitchen work surface, and there wasnt any pepper in the pepper mill
We loved our stay, and a very well equiped kitchen and layout of the whole lodge was very good, plenty of cupboards and wardrobes. We couldn't use the bath or the shower in that bathroom, as we couldn't get any water. I cleaned the french windows, they were very dirty.
Cherie
The lodge was fantastic, super clean and location very quiet. Attention to detail was excellent, the kitchen was really well stocked with cooking items. Having the walkway into Polperro was brilliant the hill is VERY steep though and really tough going walking back! so not good for people with mobility issues but there are taxis available in Polperro. We walked the hill as felt we needed the exercise! A great base for visiting lots of places. The only very slight downside was a lack of dishwasher we do really like to cook on holiday requiring lots of pans and cooking utensils which means lots of washing up! But it's only a very minor thing and wouldn't prevent us returning.
Smugglers shack was just lovely. It was clean, well equipped and was everything we needed for our short stay. The only issue we had was the sofas and chair which really need replacing as there was so comfort in the cushions. We would definitely stay here again!
WiFi was poor Needed new sofa cushions as they were very flat no bounce left We had to dust and clear cob webs out of windows when we arrived even the ones left open by the cleaners! !
Katharine
The lodge was very clean, comfortable and well equipped.
Nicola
We had a great week at Smugglers Shack! The lodge is well equipped, clean and comfortable perfect for a week away. Our only comment is about the curtains in the bedroom these are not black out and so had us all awake bright and early each day. Bring eye masks or your own black out blind there is one supplied but it is old and no longer has any suction.
Kathleen Elizabeth
We had a brilliant time. The Lodge was very clean and as described. Nice little kitchen which had everything we needed for cooking meals, we were provided with enough towels and tea towels, toilet rolls etc. The sofas werent the most comfortable and the bath taps difficult to operate, but we did manage to bathe as well as shower. We were very comfortable and worth the money we paid, although glad we went that week as the week after had a sharp rise in price. Set in a Caravan Park which had a small shop fir supplies and a takeaway facility which was useful for our first evening. We would love to come back next year. Perfect accommodation for us and close to Polperro and Looe. Booking system was easy too! A very happy week apart from the weather. Thank you!
The freezer had not been defrosted for some time nd was icebound. DrAws could not be opened. It was unuseable. The fridge had not been defrosted and absolutely stank of disinfectant Covid notwithstanding this was totally excessive...but was useable after a day or so. The lockbox old tin box was unreliable. However, the most important issue was the hot water...basically there wasnt any.
Lovely clean comfortable lodge some lovely Beaches. Great fishing villages and Looe is great for crabbing
